Diaper Hat

I was playing with Aaron the other day and put the diaper on his head! It was so fun! I made a collage of the pictures and things Aaron might have said if he could talk to me!

No power?! WHAT?!

The power went out last night at like 6:30pm island wide! Apparently, lightning hit like 3 transformers and so it automatically shut itself down as a precaution. We had a battery operated radio that we were listened to. They gave updates, had people calling in and even had Mayor Mufi Hanneman give information. Some of the people that called were unbelievable! One guy was upset that he pays like a $500 electric bill and the power isn't back on yet. WHAT?! He was for real! The DJ was shocked that he said that! The HECO guys were working as hard as they could given the circumstances! One lady even suggested using our solar power panels to get power...the DJ's had to keep from laughing! But all in all, we were reminded to keep off the roads and if we had to be driving, to remember that the stoplights should be treated as a 4 way stop.
It wasn't too bad, but we realized that we were really unprepared for an emergency. I don't even have a 72 hour kit! We had 1 flashlight, found 2 candles and no matches! We went over to my IL's for a little while and hung out, we borrowed a lighter to light our 2 candles. I have candles...I just don't know which box they're in!
We went to bed early while getting bit by mosquitoes. Man they were out to get us!
The power was still out the next day but David's cousin, Shaun, came over to hang out. We played some games, took a nap, played more games and by 2:30pm the power was back on!! YES! I love electricity! I also learned my lesson, we need to be prepared for any kind of emergency! On my to do list: Make a 72 hr kit for me and Aaron. (David already has one!)
and you know I have to end my wordy post with a picture of Aaron!

Merry Christmas!

This is our free little Christmas letter and family update for everyone.
Aaron is 13 months now and just starting to stand up and walk a few steps on his own and this will be a more exciting Christmas for him since his first one was when he was only almost two months old. He's a little crack up, just watching him discover the world around him and him imitating us with everything we do. He already knows how to fold his little arms and say "amen", but sometimes he's impatient with us and says amen in the middle of the prayer so we just bless him that he won't do that while we say the prayer.
Carol is working at Kahuku still teaching the little brats...we mean angels that give her a hard time and David is a stay at home dad for now. Carol got called to be the 2nd counselor in the Young Women program in our home ward, Laie 4th, and loving it, while all the girls love Aaron. David is still happy to be the 2nd counselor in the bishopric in the BYUH 7th Ward.
We love all of you and hope the best for all of our family and friends!

and yes, that is a real Santa!

Snow in Windward Mall

We went to Windward Mall yesterday and it started snowing!! Aaron's reactions are so funny!! This is his first experience with "snow"!

Click on the collage to enlarge.

It was really bubbles blowing from out of the tree but it was still cool and awesome!!!

BYUH Graduation Dec 2008

My cousin Max (and yes, I always address and refer to him as "cousin" Max) graduated from BYU Hawaii on December 13, 2008 and since we're pretty much the only family that he has out here, we got the tickets to attend the ceremony and listen to President Eyring speak and watch cousin Max get his (empty) college diploma (holder).

As we were waiting for the graduation commencement to commence, we looked through the program and discovered there was A LOT of people that we knew graduating and we didn't have enough leis!! So basically it was cousin Max and whoever we saw next until we ran out...sorry guys!!)
Congratulations on graduating and entering the real world!! Good luck with all you do!

The Rain Came Down and the Floods Came Up

You've probably all heard about the rain and the flood on December 11th. It was one CUH-RAZY day!! It rained so hard and for so long! We were really blessed that our house didn't flood. Our neighbors had it really bad though. David went out to help our neighbors and then went off to help his family that lives in Laie. His aunty lives on Iosepa and that street got it pretty bad, they had to rip out the carpet in their house.
These aren't even good pictures but these are the ones I took when the rain kinda died down by our house.

The water had actually gone down when I took the picture. The highest it went was almost up to the slipper.

The water is up to the back wheel of our Kia but our neighbors across the street had to sandbag it.

This is definitely worse than the one time that it rained for like forty days and forty nights! I don't know if you guys remember but the front field back then with all the water looked like a pond compared to the lake it looked like last week!

O' Christmas Tree

We put up our Christmas tree!

We put our tree on top of a box so it would look taller.

David's angle of the tree

my much shorter angle of the tree
This is a picture of the tree without the flash so it's kinda blurry.

Even though it is a fake tree, there are some of the fake tree falling off and making a mess!

Computer Games for Kids

Aaron likes to pound on the computer keyboard and take my laptop keys off. He gets mad when I don't share my laptop with him because he thinks I'm watching Super Why without him (I downloaded 2 free episodes from iTunes) and he'll close the screen or push it down so I can't see. BUT THEN I discovered this little gem from Fisher-Price.

click on either image to go to website
It's a website with games for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. I looked at the infant games and it's pretty neat. Every time they press a key, something will pop up! It teaches them cause and effect, because I press a button, something will pop up.

Aaron enjoys it but then he starts closing the laptop and gets mad that he can't open it. So I have to open it back up again but it's fun!

You should check it out!

Cheung Family

My family came to visit for Thanksgiving. The original idea was so that we could take family pictures again since my brother was going to come back to Hawaii from boot camp BUT long story short, he couldn't make it. We were sad but life goes on.
Here are some photos of my parents and my sister in various places.

top left: My Mom and Dad, me and David in Chinese restaurant, Mom and Aaron
Middle left: Aaron playing with my dad, Mom and Dad on Thanksgiving day, Olivia (sister) and Mailani (sister-in-law)
bottom left: Dad, Mom, Olivia and Aaron playing, Aaron is tired of taking photos, Mom and Aaron

All in all, they had a super fun time with Aaron and Aaron liked playing with them too! Whenever he saw them, he would get so excited! When they left for the night, he would get mad because his buddies were gone!

Here is a picture of my dad's excellent photoshopping skills and voila, my brother is in the picture with us!

My sister Olivia, my mom and me!

"Twin" "Sister"

My friend Mariko and I both work at Kahuku High. Pretty much everyone we see or know thinks that we're either twins, sisters, each other, or students.
Must be the stereotype that all Asians look alike.
The funny thing is, she's half Japanese and I'm full Chinese.

Do you think we look alike?!

Picture Tag

Okay, so according to this tag I'm supposed to choose the 6th picture in the 6th folder and the 4th picture in my 4th folder, and post it.

Here is the 6th picture in my 6th folder. Surprise, it's Aaron! It was one of the first activities in David's student wards...maybe not. It was a talent show and someone made a hat for Aaron.

Hello! It's Aaron again! This time it's Easter!! Like the bunny ears we made?!

A Mission Reunion, Camp Rock and a milestone

David had a Philippines Quezon City Mission Reunion on Tuesday Nov 25th and I got to meet his mission president and his family and the other people from his mission. There was really yummy food and dessert! Aaron even got some pie!
After that we went home and my parents came over to play with Aaron. We were showing my family "Camp Rock" because there is this one part where it totally looks like my brother is singing and dancing in it! Anyway, as the music is playing, Aaron is dancing along and he's so excited that he stands up! WHAT?! He finally stood up on his own! Must've been the pie he had! I took a couple of videos but this is the best one. Sorry it's so dark!
We have bad lighting but you can see his diaper!

Here are some pictures if you can't see the video.

My little baby isn't gonna be a baby much longer!

Catch up

I have a lot of blogging to do so stay tuned for these upcoming posts!

Career

I went to a career fair at the high school last week just to look around with my friend Mariko's class. But as we went around the booths, I was thinking about switching careers. We went to one for UH that had to do with something with health and one category was Nutritionist. I'm thinking I could do that! That would be interesting!
We go walking around some more, get some pens, talk to the zoo guy about the skulls and bones of animals he had on his table. Did you guys know that hippos kill like two to three thousand people a year? and that they can open their mouths 177 degrees?!

Holy cow! I mean hippo! I had no idea they were so deadly! I always thought they were so cute!

Well, they still are but they're more dangerous than I thought!
We went to the police booth and started talking to the recruiter and he thought me and Mariko were students! (another story for another time) Anyway, once he found out we were teachers, he was telling us we would make good cops because we could be great for undercover since we look so young and non-police-ish (sorry Mariko, I know that's not a word but it's the only I could come up with!) and we looked at the requirements and we were like, yeah, we could totally do this! I was seriously thinking about joining the police force! But now that ship has sailed and I'm gonna stick with my job as a teacher. I will teach social studies one day. For now, I'm content that I have a job and can support my family. But maybe, just maybe one day when I can't handle being around needy, irritating, disrespectful students anymore, I will quit being a teacher and become a cop!

Baby Signs

Before I forget... We've been teaching Aaron to sign "please" since he was like 6 months old and on and when he was 11 months, he finally signed it back! YES! We were so excited! He signs "please" by pulling on his shirt. It's so funny when he doesn't have a shirt on because he'll pinches himself to sign it. He would do it so often that it would turn red! Then we taught him how to say "thank you" and "more" and he picked that up in like 2 days! Now he can sign "please", "thank you", "more", "eat", and he blows kisses (which is the same as his "thank you").

I will have a video up as soon as I remember to tape it.

Couch Climber

Aaron's discovered how to climb the couch and get down from it before he turned 1 but I've only uploaded the video now.

Aaron decides to lounge with the remote, point to the ceiling fan, talk with David, can't decide if he wants his leg on or off the couch, sucks his thumb, slides off the couch, "smiles" for the camera, shows how old he'll be (1), and waves bye.

One Year Checkup

We had his one year checkup on Monday and guess what? This little guy really is little! So he's only gained like 1 lb since the last checkup. He eats food but I guess he's so active he needs to eat MORE OFTEN. *sigh* so he's like in the 10th percentile for his weight. Guess where his height is? 75th percentile. Yeah. totally off balance! Aaron's measured at 77cm which means he's 2 and a half feet! He's HALF of me!

He's such a little copycat too! I'm sick and have lost my voice but every time I cough, he does a little cough too! or if I clear my throat he'll try to do the same thing. He's so funny!

High School Musical 3

Thanks to our friend Mariko, who gave us tickets to get discounted movie tickets, we were able
to go watch in the theatre!

Whoo hoo!! I have been totally looking forward to this movie!
I love High School Musical! I would have to say that the first one was good, the second one was ok but the third one was definitely the BEST!! It was awesome! If you haven't seen it yet, GO! It is totally worth it to go watch in the theatre!
We went with David's cousin, Shaun, and his sister, Mailani to Windward mall after we went to Haunted Lagoon at PCC (another story). It was so fun! When we went to buy our tickets, it was like 9:30pm and the movie was supposed to start at 9:30pm but the cashier asked us if we wanted tickets for the 10 o'clock show. WHAT?! We thought maybe it was a full house but it wasn't, we were like the only ones there! We had the theatre ALL to ourselves! for like the previews and then this other couple came in. They didn't even start the previews until we came in! How cool is that?!
Did I tell you I LOVE this movie? I love the music and the dancing and the music!

After the movie we posed with the gang! Oh yeah baby!!

First Birthday Party

We had his first birthday celebration at Kakela Beach Park! It was super fun! We had a potluck and we had SO MUCH food! It was so YUMMY!! Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us!
When we brought out the cake he wanted to touch the candles, of course, and when we gave him a piece of cake, he was so confused. "What?! You're going to let me touch the cake and eat it?!" If you look closely, he's slowly touching and testing the frosting...pretty soon, he just plants his face in the cake and gets frosting and cake ALL OVER his face! It was hilarious!

We didn't open his presents till we got home. Usually he's into ripping paper apart but since he was allowed to, he didn't really care! typical right?

He got a book, a wooden ambulance, shirts, a jack in the box and candy! Thank you!!

Halloween

We went to two different ward Trunk or Treats AND went trick or treating! Aaron got a bunch of candy for us!! hee hee! For the first Trunk or Treat at David's home ward we needed a costume. Since he didn't want to wear the monkey jacket, we went over to David's parents' house and picked one from their bag o'costumes. We found a Milky Way costume!
How cute is he?! click to enlarge
For our own ward Trunk or Treat, he was again the Milky Way since I really didn't want to round up another costume. I dressed up as a basketball player minus the shoes (It was raining that night and I HATE walking in wet shoes and socks! so I wore slippers.)

The costume was actually too long for him so he couldn't really crawl and get around!

He was so mad cuz his foot's stuck and he kept slipping!!
We weren't planning on trick or treating with him since we had to go to town to pick up food for his birthday party which was the next day but we got back earlier than we thought and went around Hauula getting candy! Whoo hoo!!

Monkey No Do

This was his first costume...he really didn't want to wear it.
The monkey jacket looked like it was itchy and scratchy...
Aaron doesn't like things on his head or have long sleeves either

I had to take pictures of his sad face! It was so funny! I know, I'm mean.

But he was much happier when I took off the monkey jacket. Look closely or click to enlarge but you can totally see that he had tears in his eyes!!

America's Funniest Home Videos

Remember this video of his funny face? and this video of David scaring Aaron with his "snores"?

Well we submitted them to America's Funniest Home Videos and the snore scare video (this link is on the AFV website) is going to be on the show!! It's airing November 2nd! Check your local listings for the time! In Hawaii it'll be on at 6pm on ABC!

Watch me on TV!

UPDATE: I just got a call from AFV and they said that NASCAR is on before the show so it might like cut off the beginning of the show BUT it may not affect us since our clip is in the middle or so. She did say it may affect the East Coast but there's a re-broadcast in December.

Jon, Ken and a Po!

Otherwise known as Rock, Paper, Scissors!
Our friend Feki had a surprise costume birthday party! (He's the one with the lei)

Our family dressed up as the favorite childhood game!!

I attempted to look like a pair of scissors...just turn your head upside and squint! David is a very convincing rock and Aaron, as you can see, we stuck a piece of paper on his back! He would crawl and it would hit him in the face we we ended up duct taping the paper to his clothes!! He forgot about the paper after that! It was a super fun party and had ono food and of course, I ate A LOT!! Thanks for inviting us!!
