Raya's Birth Story

There might be TOO MUCH INFORMATION in the following post so you may not want to read it. Plus there aren't any pictures, just a whole lot of words. But if you're not one to care...READ ON friends! :D But REMEMBER. I warned you! Plus it's also for me to remember.

So I was bleeding all day on Friday, which was probably ok but it hadn't stopped (and I'm closet hypochondriac, I think I'm going to die from everything) and I was getting worried so we called the doctor. She advised us to go to the hospital to get checked out and possibly plan on staying. Like I said before, I hadn't even thought of packing my bag yet! So I quickly throw some things together at midnight and we head out. Luckily my brother Luke is staying with us and we were able to have sleeping Aaron stay with him.
We arrive at the hospital, get checked out, meet the fun night nurses and wait. Actually, they had me go walking around the birth center for an hour to see if there would be any changes. After the LONG hour of walking around (and reading The Lost Symbol with David), I made enough changes that they had me stay. They were going to give me the option of going home but then the doctor changed her mind and so we didn't go anywhere.
Eventually, they gave me pitocin to kick up the contractions around 11am (Saturday). It started getting really bad and after we moved to the other room, they gave me some medicine to help ease the pain. The contractions started getting super bad and I had to hold on to David. He kept reminding me to breathe since I kept forgetting. They checked me and I was 9 cm almost 10 and I really felt like I had to pee.
TMI coming up... Read at own risk...
The doctor told me to try and pee and maybe even push a little. So I did. I peed. a lot. all over the doctor's hand and she had to go wash up.
Then I had a REALLY strong urge to push. So I pushed. The head started showing and the doctor wasn't in the room yet but I HAD to push again and WHOOSH! She came shooting out and plopped right on the bed...along with a WHOLE lot of fluid!
The nurse caught her and laid her on my chest and the doctor had barely walked back into the room. She came just in time to see Raya fly out. So she grabbed the scissors to give David to cut the cord. She sewed me up (I tore almost as much as I did with Aaron) and that was it. She checked up on me the next day and gave me the ok to be discharged Sunday evening.
So from when they gave me the pitocin till Raya, it was about 4 hours (give or take). It was definitely a LOT faster than Aaron and a little less sore. so far.

Two Weeks Early

Just in case you don't Twitter or Facebook, our baby girl was born Saturday afternoon!
We were so not prepared for her to come this early!
I'll spare you the details but I had to go to the hospital to get checked out to make sure everything was ok and they said to bring my bag just in case I had to stay. (I hadn't even THOUGHT about packing my hospital bag yet at this point!) So we packed some stuff not expecting to stay and needless to say, we ended up staying at the hospital longer than we thought.
This is how I looked all IV'ed up. They tried twice in my left arm but couldn't get the vein they needed so they switched to the right arm and also had a hard time getting it in.

Here is the cup they gave me. I thought it was so funny they put the diaper there to get the condensation! I HAD to take a picture!

We also did NOT think to bring the camera so the only camera we had was David's cell phone.

They induced me around 10 or 11 am to get the contractions going a little faster.
We welcomed Raya Kaluna Sau Chun Yuen at 3:46pm on November 21, 2009.

(pronounced: Ry-uh Kaluna S-ow Chun)

She was 6 lbs 11 oz and 19 inches long.

You can see her eyes a little bit here...

Our first family picture with Raya

Aaron stayed with my brother Luke and was later picked up by my in-laws and stayed the night. He was really good and didn't even cry when he had to leave the hospital after visiting and meeting Raya.

Look at how much hair she has!

and...I think that's it for now.
Oh. She almost passed her hearing test on the left ear so we might possibly have to do more testing (just like Aaron). We shall see and keep you posted!

Less than THREE weeks!

I have less than three weeks until baby's due. I can't wait. The weather has cooled down a little but it's still kinda hot. Plus it's super uncomfortable sitting, sleeping, standing...
I went to the OB on Tuesday and she said that I was measuring at 40 weeks already (I'm only 37 weeks)! so either I'm ready to give birth, the baby's big or...she gave some other reason I can't remember. But I'm only 1 cm dilated (which was the same as last week) so I'm thinking I still have time.

These aren't the best pictures of me but I was at a teacher workshop on Nov 11 and the most recent pictures I have of me being all pregnant.

We're not READY for baby but we should be ok. I was worried for awhile about not having a bed for Aaron to sleep in but the David pointed out to me that we already had one for him. OH. I totally forgot he told me. So I'm not worried about that anymore. I'm so glad I have David to remind me of things that I forget (which happens A LOT!).

#'s 3,4, 6

We were driving to town on Monday and all of a sudden I hear Aaron say "Free! Nook Mom, Free!" and as I looked up in the direction he was pointing, I see the sign for Highway 83. That blew my mind! I didn't even know he recognized the number 3! Then I was looking at the mail in the car and he points out the number 4! We tried other numbers but it wasn't successful.

Later that night, we were at home watching TV and Aaron comes running around the corner and gives me a magnet, "Mom, six!".  So I turned it over to make a 9 and asked him what number this was and he goes, "No, Mom. Upside down six!" and turns it over to correct me.

He must have learned it from Sesame Street...

...or some other PBS Kids show. Thanks PBS!

Indoor Playground

Aaron likes to play on this exercise equipment that sits behind our couch. It's like his own little indoor playground! Remember when he got stuck? That certainly didn't stop him from playing on it again!

Apparently he's working on his arms and abs now. He walks up on the couch and puts his feet over and hangs. It makes me so nervous every time he does it!

I just thought it was super cute that he didn't want to get out of his bed and wanted to play the DS instead.

Look at that concentration!

Birthday Celebration!

David lighting the candles on the cake that I made at the in-laws (since we have no oven). It was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting!
Aaron blowing out his last candle. After it was over, he wanted to do it again so David had him blow out the lighter.

Enjoying his chocolate chocolate cake

Presents he got that night. Thanks Yuen's and Cocco's!!

He got these a couple days later from my brother.

That's him saying "Good Job Dad!" with a thumbs up. (no idea where he got that from!)

Halloween 2009

Finally a Halloween post! I know you've been waiting to see what he dressed up as! :P

Aaron dressed up 3 times for Halloween this year. Once for my in-laws Trunk or Treat, his Trunk or Treat at Na Kamalei and then to actually go trick or treating on Saturday.

We looked for costumes at my MIL's costume bin and we found a leopard costume for Aaron. It was supposed to have little ears but we couldn't find them so we decided to gel his hair to make it look like ears. We kept looking at the different costumes and we found David a pumpkin costume and then one for me!

We were family of pumpkins/Jack O'Lantern's

Getting ready for Na Kamalei's Trunk or Treat

ROAR!

I love his little ears! David did a good job!

At the Na Kamalei's Trunk or Treat with cousin Ariana

His leopard face (and the whiskers I drew are totally off!)

Trick or treating (I asked him to hold up the bag)

Apparently it was really heavy and that wasn't even halfway down our first street!

We went trick or treating with the Jackson's after eating dinner with them.
We lost them on Moana Street (the 1st street we went down) but then we found out they went home early because they didn't want their daughter to turn into a candy addict like Aaron.

Aaron was running and jumping from house to house. He started out as a leopard but then he lost his tail and so he turned into a caveman with wild hair. It was easier to explain. Plus when we'd tell him to roar, he'd just rip off the vest! People thought he was a caveman anyways.

He had so much fun getting candy. They would put the candy in the bag I was holding and then he'd hold out his hand, get more candy and put it in the bag too OR he'd just go and grab the candy out of the bowl himself. But he was so cute that they all forgave him and gave him MORE candy!

The loot after going down Moana and Iosepa Street AND Hauula. I think we were out for almost three hours!

Armpits, Froggie and the #2

When my YW Pres asked him to smile for the camera, he decided to pose with his hands in his armpits. (and he's shirtless b/c he finally figured out how to take it off himself and wouldn't put it back on.)

Then he decided that he wanted to bend down and pose.

I think it makes him look like a little frog!

Since he just turned 2 that past Sunday, we asked him how old he was and he gave us the right answer! How cute is he?! (and he got it correct in his armpit too!)

I just thought this last picture is hilarious!

Had his two year checkup yesterday and here are the stats...
Weight: 26 lbs
Height: 35 inches (I think...the height put him in the 75th percentile)
He doesn't weigh much but at least he's gained weight since his last visit.
Ok, it was only a pound but he's progressing! He does eat. It's probably because he's so active that he burns more than he takes in or something. I should try to be more like him!

He's TWO!!

It's true. This little guy...

On his BIRTH day (November 1, 2007)

smiling in his sleep when he was a couple weeks old...

...is now a TWO year old!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AARON!!

I don't even know where to start to tell you how awesome he is.

You don't have to read it if you don't want. It's mostly for me to remember since I have a horrible memory!! :P

He cracks us up everyday with all the little things he does! He is very independent and likes to do things on his own. Knows what he wants and doesn't want and tells us! "I donwanit! I donwanit!"
He's super smart.
He knows his ABC's and is working on singing the song. He can count to 5, almost 10 (mostly because he knows he's trouble when we start counting and helps us count to 5 as well)
He loves to watch PBS Kids and always asks us to turn to that channel. He loves Super Why, Elmo, and Cars and recognizes a lot of other tv shows and the characters. He sings the Elmo's World theme song...LOUD. He sings the Barney theme song..."I love you, I love me, HUG, KISS" and gives you a great big hug and kiss! It's adorable!
(Yes, he watches way too much TV but he balances it out by running and jumping and playing that I'm not too worried he'll turn into a couch potato!)
He knows his shapes too and draws circles and lines and then wants us to help him write the letters he says and gets mad when we won't do it for him.
He still sucks his thumb even though we've been trying to get him to stop and he knows he's not supposed to.
He loves technology, especially our DS and David's iTouch.
He still loves throwing and playing with any kind of ball, be it a basketball, football, baseball, beachball, you get the idea.
He's really into ROARing and does it really well!
He loves to say hi and wave to everyone he sees and he can totally make your day!
He can also be a really big pain in the neck but you can't stay mad at him for long!
We love this little guy and I'm sure there's more but this is it for now.

Stay tuned for pictures of Halloween!!!
